Meet the $14m McLaren F1
If you haven't bought a McLaren P1, you won't be eligible to buy the track-only, hardcore McLaren P1 GTR announced earlier this week. Boo hoo.
But if you insist on spending your millions on an exotic McLaren, and want something even more exclusive than that bombastic P1 GTR, then how about this? It's a very rare, very low-mileage McLaren F1 that sports a white paintjob; the only McLaren F1 with a white paint job... in the world.
Yes folks, it's another entrant from Gooding & Co's upcoming Pebble Beach auction, and quite possibly one of its finest entrants. This 1995 F1 has had just three owners, who between them have covered 1,004 miles in 19 years. If you average that out, it equates to just over 52 miles each year. Some people run more than that.
But then the original owner had no need to run it too much and dirty the ‘Marlboro White' paintwork (remember Marlboro used to sponsor the F1 team? That's cool). Japanese collector Shin Okamoto bought the car new in 1995 and specced it so, driving it very sparingly during his 15-year tenure, because he also had a Ferrari F40, F50, 288 GTO, 333 SP and F50 GT in his stable. Because Ferrari.
Okamoto sent his McLaren - chassis number 031 - to Woking in 2008 for a full service and inspection, before selling it onto a collector in the States in 2010, who in turn sold it onto the current owner, a McLaren ‘enthusiast'.
So what do you get should you achieve the winning bid (estimated to be as much as $14 million - or £8.3m)? Erm, a completely standard McLaren F1, in white, with black leather and Alcantara, finished in red stitching. You also get an owner's manual in a leather-bound case, service and warranty book, spare key, a gold-plated titanium tool kit and roll, and Facom F1 rolling toolbox.
Oh, and you also get a BMW-developed 6.1-litre V12 engine kicking out a very, very healthy 627bhp at 7,500rpm driving the rear wheels through a six-speed gearbox.
So, fancy it?
