The first Morgan Aero GT is quite blue

Morgan's limited run nat-asp V8 send-off is here. Want one?

Among all the shiny new cars at last month’s Geneva motor show, there was a shiny old one. Morgan showed off the Aero GT, and while it’s a brand new model, it’s vintage in its styling and antiquated – but joyously so – in its use of a big naturally aspirated V8 engine.

This is the first to roll off the production line. Only seven more will follow it, as this is a very limited-run special to use the last eight 367bhp 4.8s Morgan has in its store cupboard. Which suggests that Morgans after this will come equipped with a modicum of modern technology beneath their long, sculpted bonnets.

All eight will be entirely bespoke to their buyer (about right, when it costs £144k), and this first one comes in the same Miami Blue you may know from recent Porsche 911s and 718s. It’s quite lovely, and just the bold colour you probably want in a car this unashamedly bold. And loud.

It’s perfect for highlighting the Aero GT’s extraordinary aerodynamic touches, too. It ought to be a given, considering the car’s name, yet its GT3 RS-esque wheel arch vents and front dive planes still appear at odds with the rest of the styling. They help it hit 170mph via a 4.5sec 0-62mph time, though, which is probably quite terrifying. And again, loud…
