Americans, meet your new Caterham
Good News for American fans of 40-year old British sportscars! Caterham has announced two special edition Sevens built just for you.
As part of the Monterey Car Week festivities, Caterham will unleash a Seven 360 and Seven 480, developed just for the United States.
Sadly, those numbers don't correspond to the Sevens' rated power outputs. Rather, they refer to their power-to-weight ratio, with both 500-odd-kilo Sevens packing a Ford Duratec 2.0-litre four cylinder engine, the 360 producing 180bhp, and the 480 pumping out a healthier 237bhp.
Hardly supercar power, but neither will be embarrassed in a 0-62mph dash: the 360 does the benchmark sprint in 4.9 seconds, while the 480 will crack 62mph in just 3.4 seconds. That's the same time as a Ferrari 458 Italia.
Top speed? The lesser-powered 360 maxes out at 130mph, while the 480 reaches 140mph, which - if you've ever been in a Caterham - is more than sufficient.
These Sevens will be shipped across to the States part built as rolling chassis, and then sold via Superformance dealers nationwide. So make sure you've got your special tools. TG once tried building a Caterham, and it's didn't go entirely to plan...
Prices start at $44,900 for the Seven 360, and $52,900 for the Seven 480. Any of you fine, upstanding American patriots fancy a slice of British heritage?
