1M Coupe to be MotoGP safety car

BMW's moustachioed architects of oversteer have just released this: the BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

Yes, that car has already broken cover. But this is a special, one-off 1M, built specifically for the 2011 MotoGP series to bring order to the unruly mob of Stoner, Rossi and Capirossi et al.

Featuring the same 340bhp straight-six as the road car, this has a carbon-fibre reinforced bonnet with bigger air vents, polycarbonate side and rear windows, a special lightweight titanium race exhaust, an adjustable rear wing and an additional front splitter.

Suspension tweaks include a track setup with independently adjustable dampers, ride-height and camber, and six-piston fixed-caliper brakes under 19-inch rims.

Inside, the brutal minimalism of a track-special is manifested via a rollcage, no rear seats, two racing buckets and, of course, an M steering wheel.

We think it should see limited production immediately with the letters 'C', 'S', and 'L'...
