Buying
What should I be paying?
Fuel economy of the GTI is looking so-so these days, compared to the rest of the eco stars in the line-up; choose a diesel if saving fuel is all. Some of the prices may draw a sharp intake of breath, particularly the GTI which costs over £30,000 (it used to be higher still until VW saw sense and dropped the pointless R). The entry-level car should be enough for most though, and that’s much more sensible at £22,070. This should be enough to make the case – even alongside premium alternatives such as the Audi A3 Cabriolet and looming BMW 2-Series Cabriolet.
