Buying

What should I be paying?

Engine choice is simple, primarily as there's now only available. Both the V6 and V8 have been shelved, in favour of a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel with 174bhp and 332lb ft. Given the LC is a big ol’ lump (a 2.1-ton kind of lump), performance isn’t its strong point with 0-62mph seen off in 12.7 seconds (in the higher spec models, 17.6 in lower) and 109mph top speed. But the 38.2mpg is surprisingly achievable. And 192 g/km CO2 is good for such a large SUV but be prepared to get walloped with a hefty road tax bill.

The new five-seat boggo ‘Utility’ spec starts at £32,795 and will plug along off-road nicely but stretching into the higher specs gifts your LC with a lot more tech, such as air suspension that improves its capability and refinement, but also whacks up the price to near-on £60k.
