Buying

What should I be paying?

There are five trim levels in the UK (we don’t get the base spec S) – in ascending order, they’re SE, SE Technology, SE L, SportLine Plus and L&K.

Prices start at £27,695 for a base spec SE Estate with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a manual gearbox, or you can pay around £400 per month on a 48 month PCP deal direct from Skoda. Things rise from there up to around the £43,000 mark for a plug-in hybrid or four-wheel drive L&K. All come with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty.

If you can justify the initial outlay and the hit to your miles per gallon, the 276bhp estate with its four-wheel drive and DSG makes for a terrific Q-car. The plug-in hybrid iV will no doubt be the company car darling.

The VW Group’s clever Travel Assist cruise control would be an option box worth ticking, as would the aerial view parking camera and the child-friendly panoramic roof. Don’t fret about opting for larger 19-inch wheels either – the ride remains class-leading.
