What should I be paying?
One issue – at the time of updating this review in 2023, Porsche has pulled the GT4 from sale in the UK so that it has the production capacity to build the GT4 RS and Spyder RS. Before that though, prices started at around £78,000 and quickly made their way up towards six figures after a few options were applied.
Need a few examples? The Clubsport Package was £2,778, ceramic brakes £5,597, bucket seats £3,788, a Bose surround sound system £834 and Porsche’s dynamic light system £918. Ouch. Heck, it was even £134 to have the teeny headlight cleaner covers painted in the same colour as the body.
Still, resist driving it hard all of the time and you’ll get fuel economy in the high 20s (Porsche claims 25.7mpg and 249g/km of CO2 combined) while you get a three-year unlimited mileage warranty as standard. Servicing is every two years or 12,000 miles. It might look tough, but it ought to be a softie to own. So long as you aren’t renewing the tyres too often…
In fact, this could very feasibly be your only car if its lack of back seats aren’t an issue. With 420 litres of luggage space split between front and rear boots, it’s every bit as roomy as other 718 Caymans, and you’ll get a decent sized bag or case in the front compartment, which drops right to the car’s belly. The interior is full of handy cubby holes (even possessing two coat hooks) and unlike some track specials, there’s air con and sat nav as standard. There’s no compromise to be made here.
