What should I be paying?
As we’ve said, emitting 97g/km of CO2 (109g/km in F Sport trim thanks to 18in wheels and slightly less slippery aero) makes the IS a shoe-in for a company fleet’s manna from heaven. Though mid-forties mpg in regular use is a lot more realistic than Lexus’ high-60s claim. 60 per cent of the 5,500 IS sales Lexus racks up annually are fleet, with a whopping 90 per cent of those covered off by the hybrid.
Indeed, half of all Lexus you see on the roads will be an IS. That’s how important this car is for the company, and how crucial its consumption ratings are. Meanwhile, Lexus dealers are consistently at the top of ownership satisfaction ratings like the JD Power survey, and the cars themselves have been subject to few of the reliability woes that parent brand Toyota has suffered in recent years. While the IS won’t make your palms sweat or heart race as a drive, it’s likely to be one of the most painless cars to own on the market today.
