Jeep Grand Wagoneer review

The high price tag of the Grand Wagoneer is not the end of the higher costs of ownership. Moving more than 6,000lb of SUV – before you add any passengers and luggage – down the road requires a lot of energy.

Especially when that energy is being supplied by a venerable 6.4-litre Hemi V8. So fuel consumption is likely to be in the 15mpg bracket – or less – with the vehicle being driven as intended.

On the upside, four wheel drive, air springs and Quadra Drive II, with its two-speed transfer case and LSD, should make the Grand Wagoneer fairly unstoppable in all conditions outside an outright flood or blizzard.

The level of tech and comfort on offer here screams comfortable, continent-crossing road trips. With or without a trailer in tow. So it seems like a bit of a waste to just use it on the school run or a limo. But that’s what most of them will probably end up doing. And will do very well.

Something else Jeeps also do well is hold their value. And there’s no reason why the Grand Wagoneer will be any different. They will be in short supply for the next couple of years, too, which will keep residuals high. Both should make them a good lease or buying prospect.
