Here's a Jaguar F-Type Coupe that wants to be your friend. Where the V8R Coupe charms with low-speed rumble before bludgeoning you to death with the blunt end of 542bhp, this entry-level V6 is much more... soothing.
It's the least powerful F-Type Coupe you can buy, but don't think of it as a set of training wheels. A hefty 335bhp from that 3.0-litre supercharged V6 is still plenty, and there's nothing wrong with the way it delivers those horses either.
It's very linear, progressive and plenty quick enough on a day-to-day basis. Yes, you'll have to work that V6 to reveal its inherent good nature and mellifluous top end, but if you do, it even delivers some off-throttle pops and chunter heroics just like its big V8 brother. Though a little more muted, of course. And even if it does without the mechanical/active diffs and adaptive damping of the V6S and V8 cars, it's fundamentally well sorted. It's comfortable, supple, and seems to enjoy the simple business of changing direction quickly. It's refined, too.
Thing is, even if we're usually of the opinion that more is better, the V8 is probably a little too much grunt for the F Coupe in terms of daily usability, and the straight V6 a fine car, though a wee bit lacking. Which makes the 375bhp V6S the best balanced, nicest car of the lot.
