Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster review
Interior
What is it like on the inside?
Again, it’s very much like the SUV (or should that just be UV?) version of the Grenadier. Up front you get two comfortable Recaro seats, plus a 12.3-inch touchscreen and plenty of physical switches.
You still get the overhead toggles that allow you to live out your dreams of being a pilot too, and if things get a bit mucky you can actually hose down the interior: there’s a plughole in the floor and the buttons and switches have an IP54K rating to withstand a bit of overspray or dust in the cabin.
We’ve only driven a left-hand drive Quartermaster, so we can’t comment on whether the Station Wagon’s driver-side footwell intrusion remains with offset pedals or whether the slightly-too-small windscreen wiper on that side has been fixed.
The touchscreen responds reasonably quickly to your inputs, although remember you only get three-quarters of the screen to play with because the rest acts as a dial display.
There’s no sat nav because Ineos (rightly) didn’t think it was worth spending the cash on development, so you’ll want to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to connect your phone. And if you’re going off the beaten track there’s a standard waypoint-based Pathfinder navigation system.
What are the back seats like?
The seating in the rear is the same as in the Utility Wagon, so you sit quite upright and anyone over six foot will have to duck down to look out the window. Spec the safari roof option and let them sit up front.
Under the rear bench there’s a dry stowage compartment, although that’s replaced by a subwoofer in Fieldmaster trim and an auxiliary battery system in Trialmaster.
What do I need to know about the bed?
Yeah, it’s not technically inside the truck, but let’s go through some details of the cargo bay here. It’s plenty big enough for a 1,200mm x 800mm Euro pallet and houses the spare wheel. There are four tie-down rings in there too, plus a 400W power take-off and an integrated mounting bar.
The tailgate is 1,280mm wide for easy loading, and it can take 225kg of weight if you want to use it as a makeshift bench.
The bed can be covered with an optional and lockable rolling tonneau cover or a full height canvas canopy that’s draped over a metal frame.
