Hyundai Ioniq review: Hyundai goes green with not one, not two, but three flavours of eco five-door

Good stuff

Proper dual-clutch gearbox, real-world economy, very well-priced

Bad stuff

Tinny interior, cramped rear seats, far from handsome

Overview

What is it?

Hyundai’s Prius, really. It’s got the teardrop, aero-smarting shape. It’s got clumsy detailing so no onlooker will doubt you’re driving a green car. And it’s powered by a combination of 1.6-litre petrol and electric motor power – if you choose it to be. You’ll also be able to buy a fully electric Ioniq that’s targeting the Nissan Leaf head-on, with its competitive 174-mile range good enough to have the BMW i3 nervous. Ioniq Electrics get the cooper-coloured trim, and hybrids have blue highlights.

Our choice from the range

What's the verdict?

At last, a hybrid that doesn’t make you suffer for its green ideals. Top of the class.
