What should I be paying?

Ferrari says it expects the overall split of Spiders to coupes to be around 50/50 worldwide, but that’s a bit market dependent: the Spider will do better in California than the UAE, for instance.

Like all new Ferrari’s, the 12Cilindri is eligible for a seven-year maintenance programme with annual services (or every 20,000km). Worthwhile having that stamp in the book, if you want to stay in Ferrari’s good ones. And if that’s got you thinking about resale, then perhaps the thought of this being the last V12 Ferrari has you thinking it’s a sure-fire future auction champ?

Well, hold your Italian stallions on that. While it’s getting ever-trickier to limbo a nat-asp V12 through modern type approval, Ferrari insists “this engine is a statement – a fundamental part of company history that powered legendary victories on the racetrack” and the marque is “committed to use it as long as possible in future, and offer customers a choice” of propulsion. Long live many cilindri.

We got over 400km (248 miles) to a tank in the coupe over a multi-day test, and expect similar range for the Spider. The tank’s a sensibly sized 92 litres, and though it likes a drink when extending into the Opera Zone, the addition of an eighth gear means cruising range should be superior to previous Ferrari V12 super-GTs. And less disastrous than the new Vanquish’s fuel appetite...

A carbon fibre-dressed engine cover is £7,726. Paint colours from Ferrari’s storied history are over £8k. Unless it’s a bespoke paint-to-sample hue, in which case it’s just shy of £40,000. The tax on being silly enough to want black wheels is £5,375 and it’s another £1,120 to hold those onto the car with bolts made from titanium.

Living somewhere chilly? Set aside £2,200 for the neck-warming vents in the seats, £840 for a heated steering wheel, while the official umbrella is a snip at just £560.
