Interior

What is it like on the inside?

It’s quite nice inside the Chevrolet Equinox thanks to its abundant room and clean dashboard layout. Drivers are treated to an 11-inch digital display that can be configured to their preference, while next to them is an 11.3-inch infotainment screen cocked ever so slightly towards the driver, Corvette-style.

The mostly digital interface does wonders to keep away the clutter but the trade-off is hunting for functions on the touchpad as opposed to tapping a dedicated button. But the Equinox does better than most when it comes to balancing this out.

How many people fit inside?

Four comfortably, five in a pinch. There's around 37-40 inches of headroom, depending on if there’s a sunroof or not, 55-inches of shoulder room and 50 inches of hip room. In plain English this means everyone fits inside without feeling like they’re on top of each other… so long as that fifth passenger takes a walk. Behind the second row is a solid 29.8cu ft (844 litres) of cargo space, expanded to 63.5cu ft (1,798 litres) with the seats folded down.

What’s the tech like?

Chevrolet offers a standard suite of safety tech with each Equinox that includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and braking for both pedestrians or cyclists. On top of that, you can add in a side cyclist alert, adaptive cruise control and a rear vision camera – the rear view that displays in lieu of the mirror – among other safety add-ons.

For connivence, the Equinox has a number of built-in Google functions like maps and media, which is super handy for anyone existing within the Google digital ecosystem, i.e. most of us. Wireless charging for mobile devices is also available as a package feature. Activ and RS trims toss in a heated steering wheel along with heated and vented seats, features you don’t realize you miss until you go without them.
