Buying

What should I be paying?

Because crossovers are the current ‘in’ thing, residuals are likely to be good. Better than good actually, since it’s an Audi with all the desirability and quality that implies. Good residuals are good news for both those buying outright and leasing. You should be able to get hold of a decently specced SQ2 for around £350-400 a month.

More positive news. As well as delivering healthy power, the 2.0-litre turbo is surprisingly efficient. Audi claims 39.2mpg and 163g/km of CO2 – good considering it’s carrying the weight and mechanical drag of 4WD. So first year tax in the UK is £515, dropping to £140 a year after that. Here’s the stinger though. If you spec your SQ2 to over £40,000 you’re susceptible for a £310 annual surcharge. And that’s going to sting.

But at least Audi hasn’t been too greedy with its hot crossover. It’s priced in line with the S3, rather than significantly above it – only about £4,000 more than the previous Q2 range-topper, the 190bhp Q2 S-line quattro S tronic. So it looks decent value and in real world driving it’s pleasingly efficient – we were getting a steady 34-35mpg in mixed driving.
