The U-Boat Worx Super Sub is a “high-performance sports submarine”
Yeah, you’ll want one of these. U-Boat’s Super Sub is faster than a bottlenose dolphin, apparently…
Last week we saw the XTurismo – a new limited edition hoverbike from Japan. This week it was the turn of Swedish start-up Jetson to take to the skies with its ONE – a super lightweight and affordable helicopter thing. But what if you fancy going down instead of up?
Well, welcome to the U-Boat Worx Super Sub. Its makers describe it as a “high-performance sports sub” and “the most hydrodynamic sub on the market”. Sounds very Top Gear.
The Super Sub will house two passengers (in that futuristic-looking bubble up front) and one pilot, and it’ll dive to depths of 300 metres and uses a 62kWh lithium-ion battery connected to four thrusters with a combined 80bhp.
That may not sound like much for something that weighs 9,000kg, but it’s enough to get the Super Sub up to speeds of eight knots underwater. U-Boat Worx helpfully tells us that that’s 1-2 knots faster than the top speed of a bottlenose dolphin. There’s something you didn’t expect to read today.
The cabin comes complete with proper armchairs, aircon and a sound system, and there’s sonar and all the usual submarine bits of tech that we don’t fully understand but completely admire.
There’s no word on price as of yet, but the old adage of ‘if you have to ask’ certainly applies here…
