Poshest pooch in the US? An owner had this bespoke Rolls-Royce built solely for their dog
Say hello to Goodwood’s latest very good boy – the Rolls-Royce Spectre Bailey, complete with bespoke paint colour-matched to his ear
We often describe supercars, hypercars and million-pound restomods as ‘lottery win purchases’ on these pages, but Rolls-Royce has just demonstrated another way for us to splash some cash if our numbers ever do come up.
You see, through its fancy Bespoke programme it has just created this for some “longstanding clients” in the US. 'This' is called the Rolls-Royce Spectre Bailey, and as you might have guessed from the paw prints and the gorgeous pooch in the pictures above, it’s a one-off Rolls designed in honour of a dog.
Yep, Bailey’s owners are clearly quite besotted with him. So much so, they had the Rolls-Royce’s paint wizards create a whole new paint colour that’s “inspired by the soft fur on Bailey’s ear”. Too cute. That shade is now known as ‘Beautiful Bailey’ and is paired on the outside with ‘Crystal Fusion’ on the bonnet and roof. There’s also a hand-painted coachline in rose gold that matches the Spirit of Ecstasy and features an exact reproduction of Bailey’s paw print.
Although if this car really were for Bailey, then surely the Spirit of Ecstasy would be made from raw hide, and the seats would have those awful squeaky toy things stitched inside? Instead, the seats are actually “presented in Moccasin and Crème Light leather, beautifully complemented by Dark Spice and Casden Tan accents, reminiscent of Bailey’s fur colour,” says Rolls. That’s going to be a nightmare to clean.
Apparently the majority of the wood is ‘High Gloss Royal Walnut’, while between the Spectre’s two rear seats there’s a portrait of Bailey (a Labrador-Golden Retriever mix) that took four months to complete and was created using more than 180 bits of natural veneer. With no staining or artificial treatment allowed, we’re told his tongue alone needed four different woods that had never previously been used by Rolls – Purple Heart, Tulipwood, Louro Faia and Pear.
“We are lifelong car enthusiasts, yes, but we are also lifelong animal lovers, and our dog Bailey is a cherished member of our family,” said the unnamed creators of this canine coupe.
“When we started our Rolls-Royce Spectre commission, we saw the opportunity to create something beautiful which would remind us of him for decades to come. Working with the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective, we were surprised at every turn with their wonderful ideas – the wood inlay, or the paw prints on the sill – which added so much to the experience. Spectre Bailey is everything we hoped for and more; it’s a joyful tribute to our loyal companion.”
We’d love a bespoke Rolls-Royce for our mutt, but perhaps a Rover 75 might be a more appropriate starting point?
