Porsche sets up Netflix-style subscription scheme
Carrera and chill, anyone?
When a three-year PCP plan feels too long, but a three-hour track day experience is too short, how do you get your hands on the latest sports cars pretty much hassle free?
Porsche has this week introduced its Porsche Passport monthly subscription programme, which essentially lets you borrow and drive a Porsche of your choice anywhere at any time of day. Who needs Uber anymore anyway?
There are two levels of plan – standard and High Def, if you will. The “Launch” plan gives you access to eight models, including the 718 Boxster and Cayman S, while the “Accelerate” package offers 22 cars, including the Panamera 4S and Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUV.
Both levels get tax, registration, insurance, maintenance and even wash and detailing all included in the flat fee, and everything is controlled by the humble smartphone app, including same-day scheduling. There’s unlimited choice and even unlimited mileage… although we’d love to put that theory to the test.
The catch? Well, firstly it’s only available in Atlanta in the US at the minute. But mostly because the Launch plan costs $2,000 a month, while Accelerate is a cool three-thousand bucks. Plus the $500 activation fee, of course.
Is the age of traditional vehicle ownership long gone? Are we ready for a world where Boxsters and Breaking Bad go side-by-side? What brand would you subscribe to? Let us know in the comments.
