This Chinese limo just sold for £480k

Published: 24 Apr 2014

This is the Honqi L5 limousine. It's a very big, very powerful and very important car for very important people, and the very first production model has just been sold for £480,000.

Well, near enough £480k, anyway. Bloomberg is reporting that a Chinese customer in Nanjing has bought the very first production Honqui L5 saloon; China's most expensive car.

Mr Wang Zhonghua is the man with the cash, and will take delivery of his new ‘Red Flag' L5 some three months from now, following its unveil at this year's Beijing Motor Show. We saw the L7 last year too at the Shanghai Motor Show, and this one looks equally like a European luxury car that crashed headfirst into the 1960s.

It weighs over three tonnes. It's 5.5m long, 2m wide and 1.5m tall. It sports a 6.0-litre V12 producing 402bhp and 405lb ft of torque channeled through a six-speed automatic gearbox. It's got four-wheel-drive. We're told there is much leather and wood inside, coupled to a nod to the digital age.

Sure, it looks weirdly cool, but we don't have to tell you exactly what £480,000 can buy you. Well, we will a bit. It will buy you a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster (£290k), a 5.0-litre supercharged Range Rover (£100k), and around £90k to play with in the classifieds.

What would you do?
