IWC Schaffhausen adds Lake Tahoe to its Top Gun collection
The Big Pilot’s watch now in white, showcased by Sir Lewis – who else?
It’s a bit too early to be talking about the winter season in Lake Tahoe. After all, it’s June. However, IWC Schaffhausen’s ambassador, seven-time F1 world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, was eyed sporting its latest release at the Spanish GP. And it’s got us chatting about skiing, racing, being punctual, among other things...
Named (in full) IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Lake Tahoe (phew), it’s a pure white ceramic addition to the brand’s Top Gun collection and despite its rubber strap, it’s dead smart.
We’re told it's inspired by the white uniforms, which evokes nostalgia of Maverick and the boys crooning in a bar sometime in the 1980s. That’s about the time IWC developed the ‘perpetual calendar’ – a complex mechanism that counts the days and years, including moon cycles and leap years, and ‘requires no manual adjustment until 2100’.
The black dial and hands have white Super-Luminova – to glow in the dark – and offset a stainless steel case and back case ring. There’s a transparent sapphire glass back to view the movement through.
IWC explains that ‘the reductionist gear train is so precise, it’ll only deviate by one day after 577.5 years'. It’s available from July 2023, for an equally precise £34,900.
Plenty of time and budget to enjoy those wintry mountains between California and Nevada? Tahoe, here we go.
