Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion news - Turning the air blue - 2007

Volkswagen is getting very blue in the run-up to the Geneva motor show.

Yesterday we reported the start of its blue period with the Polo BlueMotion and now, mere hours later, we have the Passat BlueMotion.

Using a 105bhp turbodiesel engine, the Passat manages 55.4mpg combined consumption, which VW says is enough to travel up to 838 miles between fills.

Top speed is 120mph for the saloon and 118mph for the estate.

The downside is that the Passat BlueMotion needs a service every 9,000 miles, which is more often than a standard diesel-powered Passat.

No word on when the Passat BlueMotion will be on sale in the UK yet, but expect another BlueMotion VW to be announced tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that, and the day...
