Volkswagen has sold its 10,000th Tiguan R
And to celebrate, hired out Brands Hatch for the day. As you do
Another day, another sporty SUV milestone: Volkswagen has sold its 10,000th Tiguan R, with the keys going to a UK customer. Further proof, if it were needed, that fast SUVs are in. But how does a track day at Brands Hatch on the house to receive your new car sound?
Because that’s exactly what Trevor Godfrey, who’d bought the car from his local retailer Marshall Volkswagen Gatwick, was invited to do. If Carlsberg did car handovers…
Peter Jost, head of marketing and sales for Volkswagen R, was there to oversee the handover and present Trevor with a few mementos to mark the occasion, including a specially engraved souvenir keyring. Following his car unveiling in the pit lane, he was then led out to the track in another near-identical Tiguan R for some initial passenger laps with a professional driver, before taking the wheel himself.
“I’m a big Formula One fan, so this is perfect for me,” said Trevor. “How many people can say that the first place they drove their new car was Brands Hatch?”
Luke Hanman, general sales manager at Marshall Volkswagen Gatwick, and Brooke Chapman-Smith, the sales executive who took Trevor’s order, were also specially allowed out the office to see Trevor receive his new, er, track toy.
“Trevor came to us wanting to part exchange his Touareg; he wanted something slightly smaller that was fun, but still practical,” said Luke. “Brooke and I both love the Volkswagen R range, so we recommended the Tiguan R.”
Trevor added: “It was a surprise when they told me that mine was the 10,000th Tiguan R and that a special event was being planned for the handover. I thought it would be at the dealer, but this is great. I guess I’ve had the luck of the draw, but I’ll take it!”
Spare a thought for customers 9,999 and 10,001…
