Watch a Lambo do a 10-sec quarter-mile

Published: 20 Feb 2014

We'd like to think the gentleman responsible for this modified Lamborghini Jalpa was inspired by the legendary 2001 think-piece The Fast And The Furious.

Because, ladies and gentlemen, what we have here is - to quote the late, great Brian Earl Spilner - a '10-second car'.

Well, 10.6 seconds, to be precise. We know that a man named ‘Nick' has taken a Lamborghini Jalpa from the 1980s, and ripped out its 3.5-litre V8 to make way for the General's 5.7-litre LS1 V8. A Magnuson supercharger was then attached to this engine, to make a total whoopsie of around 620bhp and many, many torques.

We're not entirely sure Ferrucio would approve, because a Toyota automatic trans-axle gearbox was then fitted to the Lambo to "help get the power to the ground". To cap it off, the FrankenJalpa got a complete rollcage, new doors, lightweight wing mirrors and new wheels and tyres. Naturally.

At the Calder Park Raceway in Australia, Nick and his Lambo decided to show the world just what 620bhp American horses running through a Japanese gearbox look like on a 1980s Italian supercar. Mouth, meet floor.
