Video: VW Polo rally car drifts down a mountain

Red Bull knows a thing or two about viral videos. Its latest film pits rally driver against skier. The former is VW Polo WRC pilot Andreas Mikkelsen, the latter Olympic gold medallist Aksel Lund Svindal.
 
There’s a twist, though, as they team up to make the last ferry of the day. Getting to the Lysefjord shore from atop a mountain means Mikkelsen must wend his way around the 27 hairpins that will lead him to shore.
 
The perfect opportunity to display the agility of his rally car, then, with a childish little showpiece at the end of the film.
 
Yeah, it’s presumably scripted to the nth degree. But it’s meticulously produced. Put aside any concerns about subliminal advertising and instead revel in an artful display of precision driving.
