Video: Porsche 918 vs 911 Turbo S drag race
The Porsche 918 is the fastest road car Stuttgart has ever built. Armed with 875bhp of combined V8 and electric power, it’ll officially do 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds, and 217mph all-in.
There’s not much in the world that’ll keep pace with it. Apart, possibly, from Porsche’s own 911 Turbo S, the four-wheel drive weapon with a strong claim to the title of fastest real-world in the, erm, real world.
With a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat six stuffing 553bhp to all four wheels, Porsche says the 911 Turbo S will get from 0-62mph in 3.1 seconds, with a top speed knocking on the door of 200mph. Near enough to the 918, then, to make things mighty interesting in a drag race.
So just how close can the relatively affordable 911 Turbo S – a mere £140,000 to you, sir – push the £700,000 918? As part of Top Gear magazine’s massive Speed Week issue, we lined up the brothers Porsche for a quarter-mile blast in search of answers.
Have a look at just how close the contest was in the video above, and then pick up your copy of Speed Week in digital form for a whole load more excellent fast-car video goodness…
