You can race your Dodge Demon at Hennessey’s drag strip

Of all the many great things the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is capable of – y’know, fastest accelerating production car, all the G force, WHEELIES – there’s one thing it is strictly not capable of.

You’ll remember that at launch, we told you how the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) had banned the Demon from any of its member tracks for being, quite simply, too fast.

Which is a bummer, considering how Dodge specifically built the ruddy thing to go quarte-mile drag-racing. To be banned from doing a thing it was built to do is a bit of a blow.

Fear not. John Hennessey – the man behind Hennessey Performance and the president of the Lonestar Motorsports Park – has opened up his very own quarter mile drag strip for future Demon owners desperate to do WHEELIES.

In an open letter to the head of passenger cars at Fiat Chrysler US, Tim Kuniskis, Hennessey explains that he was “greatly disappointed to find out that the NHRA has banned the Demon from being able to run to its full potential (9.65secs @ 140mph) at their quarter-mile drag-strips”.

Thus, he has good news for Demon enthusiasts. “As the president of Lonestar Motorsports Park,” Hennessey said, “we plan to allow Dodge Demon owners to be able to run their vehicles down our quarter-mile drag-strip without a rollcage and/or parachute.

“The only requirement that we will have for Demon owners is that they attend a one-day drag-racing school with their Demon, so that they can become familiar with doing burnouts, setting tyre pressures and safely operating their vehicles in a drag strip environment,” he added.

Once this training has been completed, Dodge enthusiasts will be able to set their Demon “free”.
