This is a restored ’69 Camaro with 650bhp and a carbon fibre body

Finale Speed’s new creation fuses classic looks with new materials. And many horsies

Published: 24 Jan 2023

The headline here is Oklahoma tuner Finale Speed’s deployment of exposed-weave carbon fibre within the body of this supremely delightful 1969 Chevy Camaro restomod. A side note? That it’s got a hugely powerful V8 underneath.

The latest in a long, long line of modified American classics is no stranger to horsepower, then. FS’s work takes in a GM LT4 crate V8 together with a Wegner pully system, GM fuel management setup and a VaporWorx fuel pump.

Together with a custom stainless-steel exhaust and new battery, ignition and electrical harness, the modified Camaro pushes out 650bhp. Considerably more than the original 1969 Camaro pushed out, that’s for sure.

It’s matched to a proper six-speed manual gearbox, a limited slip diff and new axles, along with new front and rear subframes, oversized sway bars and JRi coilovers. Indeed there’s little that remains of the original Chevy, including the wheels, now 18in Forgeline three piece items hiding Wilwood calipers and cross-drilled/vented discs, though it at least looks like a Camaro.

The body is fully carbon fibre, engineered to “OE specifications” using prepreg autoclave-cured material for lightness and strength. It’s then covered in a clear finish to show off the weave, and matched to LED lights, flush-mounted glass and billet hinges and handles. The finish is quite spectacular, you’ll agree.

Similar story inside, which takes in new front seats (and bins the rears), lots of Alcantara, a four-point rollbar, and an Alpine stereo with many speakers and a sub. Though, you’ll likely turn that off just to hear the hugely powerful V8 underneath.
