New Camaro ZL1
We've gone a little muscle car crazy this week. Mostly, it is because of the Chicago motor show churning out some gems.
Now we have this, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It is powerful. In fact, it is the most powerful Chevrolet Camaro ever built, and carries the moniker of a legendary all-aluminium racing engine built in '69.
The Chevy's 6.2-litre V8 gets a supercharger strapped to its venerable banks, upping power from 426bhp to 550bhp and 550lb ft of torque; considerably more.
No performance stats as it is still undergoing development, but expect sub-five to 62 and a top speed somewhere north of 170mph...
It gets magnetic ride control, stronger axles and limited slip-diff, 14.6in Brembo brakes, electric power steering and some body bits for extra ‘grrr'.
Camaro engineers have already beaten this brute at courses in the US and Germany, and will continue to assault it throughout the year, ready for production in 2012. Watch this space...
