Lucky Americans: the US is about to get two glorious special edition Nissan GT-Rs
The R35 may be dead in Europe, but it’s still going strong across the pond. Now features Midnight Purple and Bayside Blue
We desperately miss the Nissan GT-R. The plug was pulled on the R35 in Europe back in 2022, and despite Nissan’s attempts to drum up some excitement with the all-electric Hyper Force, we just want that old VR38DETT engine back.
And now Nissan has made the longing even greater, with two utterly splendid special editions that are solely for the US market. Boo.
The first is the Skyline Edition. Based on the 2024 GT-R Premium, it’s finished in the iconic Bayside Blue paint and gets a really rather lovely Sora Blue interior to match. Bayside Blue was retired after the R34 and only came back briefly for the 50th anniversary R35 in 2019.
The second car here is the Takumi Edition, which uses the T-Spec trim as its base and honours the Takumi master craftspeople that put together the current GT-R’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine. The stunning paint is Midnight Purple and it’s paired with 20in forged RAYS wheels painted gold.
We’re liking that Mori Green interior too, and apparently the red engine badge signifies that the VR38DETT has been given special treatment during the production process. Nissan says that includes “an elevated level of attention to precise engine tolerances and component balancing during assembly”.
We won’t find out how much each of these editions will cost until later this year, but we’re told that ‘very limited numbers’ will start arriving at US Nissan dealers in the summer of this year. We’d have our name down quicker than you can say ‘Godzilla’.
