Looks like the new Integra Type S will have Civic Type R power
Honda’s American arm confirms 320 horsepower and 310lb ft from a 2.0-litre turbo. Which seems familiar...
Look sharp, Americans: Acura has confirmed that the 2024 Integra Type S will have 315bhp and 310lb ft when it arrives in your lovely country this summer.
Just by way of explanation, this amount of power is often referred to as ‘enough’ by the rest of the world, but we understand if this is something of a new concept for you all to wrap your heads around.
But then, of course, it’s motivating quite enough car these days – 4.7 metres long, 1.8 metres wide, 1.4 metres tall and 1,400kg. Consult your nearest man in overalls to convert that into Fahrenheit if necessary, or just take a look at an Integra in person – it’s no longer the lithe little coupe you remember from the Nineties.
But then at least as far as we can remember, the Integra was always the up-spec, coupe version of the Civic. And now that the Civic is about the size of a BMW 3 Series, it follows that the Integra won’t be the size of a paper wasp.
Actual impressions of the final form will have to wait; information seems to be something of a slow drip. In fact, these two ‘inside the developing room’ photos do little more than tell us that a) it looks to be a four-door, b) wheel arch extensions are imminent and c) that we’re a bit over this whole ‘morsel by morsel’ car launch thing.
An equally rarefied success has to be the six-speed manual. We couldn’t be happier that Honda is persisting with its unbridled ambition to perfect the manual gearbox, like obsessing over shift knob weights in the Type R to this day.
As it appears that the chassis and drivetrain are lifted from the new Civic Type R, it stands to reason that the Type R’s ‘bolt action rifles could learn a trick from this’ six-speeder will carry over too. Only thing we’re hoping is the Type R’s ten-grand price hike doesn’t come along for the ride...
