Fisker Artega GT news - Flying Fisk' - 2007
Anything springing forth from the pen of Henrik Fisker is generally worth a close look.
The Danish car designer boasts the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage and DB9 in his back catalogue, as well as a couple of more, erm, esoteric affairs from his eponymous coachbuilding company.
And, judging by the Artega GT, Fisker hasn't forgotten how to design a properly jaw-dropping car.
First, the figures: the GT is a petite mid-engined sports car powered by a Volkswagen-sourced 3.6-litre V6.
Although its 300bhp output might not sound too imposing, the GT weighs in at a paltry 1,100kg, meaning it'll hit 62mph in a touch under five seconds before topping out at an estimated 169mph.
That's rapid rather than face-warping, but the GT is the same size as the Mazda MX-5, so it should be a involving wee drive, especially with VW's DSG gearbox fitted as standard.
And, just in case you hadn't noticed, it looks bloody beautiful. OK, there's a healthy chunk of Ferrari and Porsche styling in there (and, inevitably, a liberal splash of Aston, but when was that ever a bad thing?), but the whole package is stunningly good-looking.
Of course, there's a drawback. There always is. Only 500 GTs are being built, and the entire production run has sold out to German customers already.
However, salvation may be on the way in the shape of a roadster version, which should find its way as far afield as Japan, the US and - fingers crossed - the UK.
