Camaro GS Racecar concepts news - Bonus track - 2008
There are plenty of most excellent modified muscle cars at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Many of them are Camaros. This might be the best of the bunch.
This is the Camaro GS Racecar Concept, a track-ready special edition straight from GM clad in the livery of classic Camaro Trans Am racers.
Though GM is calling it a concept, the Camaro GS is in fact an early prototype for the Koni Challenge GS racing class of the Grand Am series. From next year, you’ll be able to buy your own race-prepped Camaro with many of the same mods as this handsome, yellowy creature.
Mods like race-tuned suspension, a stiffened chassis and GM’s 6.2-litre ‘LS3’ V8 fettled for track-work. Oh, and a big exhaust, larger intercoolers and a whole load of carbon fibre.
We particularly like GM’s decision to plonk the Camaro GS on its SEMA show stand still coated in the dirt, brake dust and battle scars of a hard day’s racing: the car has been used as a working prototype for Riley’s race tuning, and GM decided not to give it the once-over with the chamois cloth and instead display its racing heritage with grimy pride. Good decision.
Would you take one over that SRT10 Challenger, just round the corner on the Dodge stand?
Tough decision. We’ll take one of each, ta. One for the weekday rat run and one for the weekend track day…
For more SEMA stuff, look at the Rhys Millen Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the Toyota Yaris Club speedster and Chevrolet's Camaro Black.
