Americans! You must buy this bargain Corvette track toy
The 'Bring a Trailer' treasure trove turns up a pleasingly unofficial 'Vette racecar
Well this is quite a thing, isn’t it? The C4 is hardly the coolest or most celebrated generation of Chevrolet Corvette, but this burly looking track toy obviously has something to say about it.
The best bit? It’s not a Chevy-commissioned special or a retired racecar, but a privately modified road car. So once you’ve bought it, there’ll be no shame or trepidation in giving it the absolute berries everywhere.
And being as it is on Bring a Trailer, it could end up being a reasonable bargain too.
You’ll want details. It’s a 1989 C4 ‘Vette that had an LT4 6.2-litre V8 crate engine transplanted in during the early 2000s – rated 330bhp as standard, modified further here – and it operates, perhaps unexpectedly, though an automatic gearbox. All the better for concentrating on its handling, we suppose, which is boosted by Penske remote reservoir shock absorbers. Among plentiful other mods.
There are all the racing fripperies you’d hope for inside – a proper harnessed Cobra seat and roll cage – though given “the factory water temp gauge is inoperable”, not every level of safety or maintenance is completely covered off. Just give it everything and hope for the best, eh? It looks the nuts from the outside too (at least to these eyes), its huge Perspex wing a particular highlight.
With autocross competition on its CV and 97,000 miles on its odo, this is a car that’s lived a life and which its new owner should have no shame in driving as hard as humanly possible. And if you’ve got a trailer in the Texas region – and a few dollars rattling around your pockets – that new owner really ought to be you…
