Top Gear USA host beats WRC champ
Top Gear USA's very own Tanner Foust has beaten Marcus Gronholm in the Global Rallycross Pikes Peak finale. This is not a regular occurrence.
A number of questions have no doubt erupted in your cerebrum. How did this happen? What on earth is Global Rallycross?
Well, friends, Global Rallycross is a three-event series combining circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition. Travis Pastrana (Ken Block's chum) describes it as "motocross with a roll cage". It's pretty intense.
The final event dubbed ‘Last Chance' was held last weekend at the famed Pikes Peak international raceway in Colorado Springs, and it was here that Mr Foust laid down the law on Gronholm.
"Once again it was Marcus and I in the final," says Foust. "He beat me off the line so I went really wide to get a good line into the corner and I squeezed him into the second corner. It just happened to work."
Gronholm hadn't lost a heat in a GRC event until Tanner edged him out. "Once you get behind it is hard to see," mused the Finn.
As you can see, Mr Tanner is quite handy behind the wheel. After all, not many people could do this...
