More from the Brutus and Bentley

Our present civilisation has pretty much nailed the motor car. Where our forebears used to ride around on donkeys and horse-drawn chariots, we roll in superbly cosseted safety-cells with 18in rims on magnetic dampers with blind-spot assisted mirrors and vibrating seats to wake us up.

And if you set aside comfort, there's moving the darn things too. Relatively speaking, driving today is easy. Cars have an easy ingress, there's an easy starting procedure usually involving some kind of key or button facility, the pedals are arranged in an easy order, and you're highly unlikely to get very hot oil spat in your face. That's because most now come with a standard-fit ‘windscreen'.

We're merely pointing this out because on last week's show, we got to manhandle two beasts from a very different era: the aeroplane-engined BMW Brutus, and the aeroplane-engined Bentley. As Jeremy pointed out, driving the BMW was like "doing a crossword while being eaten by a tiger."
