Top Gear Taxi: Anthony Joshua in a Defender Works V8

We pick up the reigning heavyweight champion of the world

Published: 28 Dec 2018

Welcome to the first ever episode of Top Gear Taxi – a new video series where we offer our chauffeur services to celebrities in need. Every episode features a new star in a different (and entirely inappropriate) car being taken wherever they need to go, and let’s not sugar coat it… it’s going to be tough to top this one.

Crushing himself into the passenger seat next to Top Gear’s Jack Rix is Anthony Joshua, world heavyweight boxing champion, and the car we’ve picked to ferry his 6ft 6in frame around in? A 400bhp Land Rover Defender Works V8. Leg room may be an issue.

We pick AJ up from his boxing gym in Finchley where it all began, and talk about everything from the prospect of a Deontay Wilder showdown for the undisputed heavyweight title to his three favourite heavyweights of all time. He recalls his first ever training session (and what it did to his stomach), takes the wheel himself and tucks into some nutritious road snacks. He even names his ultimate match up – any fighter any era – and explains why he still lives at home with his mum.

This is the most relaxed and honest interview to date from a global sports star at the top of his game. If you want to know what Anthony Joshua is really like, the man beyond the boxing ring, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
