Welcome to Speed Week 2015: it’s the new TG mag!

The new issue of TopGear magazine sees 19 of the most incredible performance cars on sale today do battle at the hairy, scary Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Top Gear's Speed Week 2015.

The plan was simple: gather together more than £2.5m of metal from the full spectrum of fast, from supercars to hot hatches, and decamp to one of F1's quickest, toughest race circuits in a bid to rid Europe of its chronic tyre surplus. We also felt it only appropriate to enlist the services of an $11m Cobra attack helicopter and, of course, The Stig.

Yep, an attack chopper. With 1800bhp and a 217mph top speed. And a pilot up for a race. Clearly we needed a car fast enough to take the fight to the heli. Enter the McLaren P1 GTR, 986bhp of very-much-not-road-legal, V8 hybrid insanity. Trust us, this is a race you don't want to miss.

Of course we brought along some sensible real-world metal, in the shape of, um, the Ferrari 458 Speciale, Nissan GT-R Nismo and Corvette Z06. And the Porsche Cayman GT4. And the Lamborghini Huracán. And the Mercedes-AMG GT S. And the Tesla P85D taking on BMW's i8. Well, this is Speed Week.

For those of you who prefer your fast in all-terrain flavour, we pitch the Ariel Nomad against the 542bhp Range Rover Sport SVR, and Top Gear's home-built Hyundai rally car.
