Video: the ten best cars from 299 issues of Top Gear magazine

To celebrate TG mag's 300th issue, we've got ten of the very best cars from our life

Published: 15 Sep 2017

Call them what you want: game changers, best of the best, cream of the crop... whatever. Over the past 299 issues, Top Gear magazine has driven some of the wildest, fastest and most advanced cars ever.

Ten in particular have stood out; ten have made us sit back in awe. Ten have rocked our world. To celebrate the 300th issue of TG mag - out now at all reputable (and disreputable) outlets - we decided to pull together these game changers for a little afternoon drive. TG's Jack Rix takes you on a little tour in the video above.

There's loads more packed into our shiny new 300th issue, of course. We pay tribute to Bernd Rosemeyer: the brave German road racer who nearly cracked the 300mph barrier, way back in the 1930s. We also speak to Wolfgang Dürheimer and John Hennessey, two men from different ends of the motoring spectrum, allied by one simple goal: to crack the 300mph road car challenge.

In an effort to prove that motorsport doesn’t have to be expensive, we formed our very own race series, with a TG twist. Ladies and gentlemen, we present the esteemed, not-at-all-just-made-up TG 300: three teams, three cars and a £300 budget. Cue merciless ribbing, copious amounts of spray paint and countless health and safety violations. There’s also a little look back over 24 years of TG magazine’s bloopers - when stuff went a bit wrong…

Plus, we meet the new 592bhp, four-wheel-drive BMW M5 and get the first scoop on Ariel’s monster 1,180bhp, turbine-driven hyper-EV. And we drive all the cars that matter including: Jaguar's new four-cylinder F-Type, the 813bhp Ford Mustang CS800 and the oddball Sin R1 550. We also pit Nissan Qashqai against Peugeot 3008, and detail our long-term road tests include our new Ariel Nomad and our temperamental Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Plus, we wave goodbye to our beloved Ford Mustang.
