New Top Gear mag out now: it's the Electric Awards issue

Plus: our full road test of the Cayman GT4 RS, because we didn’t want petrol to feel left out…

Published: 06 Apr 2022

Things are moving at such pace in the car industry these days that rarely a day goes by without some manufacturer proclaiming it will produce a pure electric version of each model in its line-up by 2025, and a switch to nothing but electricity by 2030. They might as well save their breath and send out a release saying “Hello! We’re still in business!”

Maserati is the latest, announcing a tri-motor, 1,200bhp GranTurismo will be the first pure EV Maser when it goes on sale in 2023, swiftly followed by an EV Grecale, MC20, Quattroporte and Levante, before giving fossil fuels the boot eight years from now.

To make such a bold statement a few years ago would have been seen as reckless. Now, if you haven’t publicly mapped your path to EV enlightenment, you’re marking yourself out as a dinosaur.

There’s plenty of great stuff in this new electric era too, so to help you sort the wheat from the chaff in 2022 we’re back with our gloriously diverse Electric Awards issue of TG magazine.

We’ve been doing many skids on ice in the Rimac Nevera and had an all-exclusive drive of the VW ID.Buzz, all in the name of consumer testing of course...

And that’s not all for this month’s issue either. As well as many, many awards, we’ve also had a go at recreating the first ever F1 championship race and there’s our full road test of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, because we wouldn’t want petrol to feel left out, would we?
