Last chance to grab Top Gear magazine's 2022 Awards issue
It’s time for the big one. Grab a copy of TG magazine to celebrate the best cars of the past year. Plus: free 2023 calendar
Top Gear doesn’t do awards like everyone else. We don’t draw up a list of categories neatly defined by established body shapes and sizes, because automotive is an industry that refuses to be put into a box.
Cars are constantly evolving; the moment you identify a cluster of them with identical form, function and propulsion and try to stick a pin in it, it’s too late, the market’s saturated and the world’s moved on to the next thing, the next out of the box idea.
Far better, we say, to simply gather up the greatest new cars launched in the past 12 months, the gems that deserve every ounce of our recognition, and celebrate the genius in each and every one of them. Sure, there’s a bit of overlap between, say, a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS and a Ferrari 296 GTB. You could argue that only one mid-engined, six-cylinder sports car should win anything, but not to acknowledge that both are among the most exciting things we’ve ever driven is, frankly, unthinkable.
Besides, variety isn’t exactly an issue for the class of ’22…
As hybrids wedge firmly into the performance car space, EVs infiltrate everything and mature with both range going up and price coming down, design daring continues its rise and pure petrol cars – from hyper to sports to hot and not-so-hot hatches – rage against the dying of the light, we’ve been treated to a perfect of storm of new and interesting stuff.
So, what picked up the gongs this year and why? Well, you’ll have to grab a copy of the latest issue of Top Gear magazine in order to find out. You can order a single copy of the issue with delivery direct to your door by clicking these blue words.
Or perhaps you want even more TG? Of course you do. Subscribe to the magazine now and you can save 40 per cent by paying just £39.49 every 12 issues. PLUS, if you're in the UK we'll send you a free Lego Technic Jeep Wrangler worth £44.99. Click here to grab the offer.
Oh, and it’s not just the greatest awards ceremony on Earth that we’re bringing you this month. There’s also the small matter of a world exclusive drive of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, as well as our thoughts on the new BMW i7, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe. And if that wasn't enough, we're also throwing in a 2023 calendar filled with the greatest car-based photography around. Enjoy folks.
