TG mag lands today, featuring an exclusive preview of the new Top Gear TV show

Published: 18 May 2016

The new issue of Top Gear magazine is out now, and it's a big one: we give you exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Top Gear TV in our massive 15-page preview.

The new presenters have raced to the world’s highest pub, had a dog fight in a Viper and a Vette at the home of Top Gun, evaded capture in the Moroccan desert in the Ariel Nomad, dabbled in car cookery and thrashed some of the planet’s hottest cars – the Aston Martin Vulcan, McLaren 675LT and Ferrari F12tdf – to their limits. Sunday 29 May can't come soon enough.

Also this month, TGTV’s new kid on the block, Rory Reid, heads to New York City to drive Tesla’s supercar-baiting electric SUV, the new Model X. In our main group test, it’s Germany vs Japan vs the American dream, in Middle England, as four cool coupes, the Mercedes C250d, BMW 420d M Sport, Lexus RC 200t and Ford Mustang EcoBoost do battle.

The perfect holiday hire car... is an electric, roofless Citroen SUV, apparently. We head to the White Isle to drive the e-Mehari, while over in Italy, deputy editor Jack Rix heads to Pininfarina’s Turin HQ to meet the boss.

In this month’s Intake section, we ride shotgun in the little brother of the Baja Rally, the Mexico 1000 – expect off-road racing at its rawest, apocalyptic Trophy Trucks, treacherous roads and the occasional (post-race) tequila. We check out the Apple iCar, meet Hollywood star Patrick Dempsey, chart the evolution of the Mercedes AMG estate and have a go in a pre-production Aston Martin DB11.

Also in this issue, we drive all the new cars that matter: head-to-head battles between the Jaguar XF and the Mercedes E-Class and between the Kia Sportage and the Nissan Qashqai. Plus, we drive the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Volvo V60 Polestar Drive-E, the manual Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Jeep Wrangler 75th Anniversary and the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43. And we triple-group-test the BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG and Maserati Ghibli.
