Singer has designed this WEC Porsche 963's livery, and ex-NFL superstar Tom Brady is involved too
Legendary hand-egg devotee joins Le Mans centenary-year competition
Racing, as any fan knows, is an expensive business. One of the newest players on the race scene (well, not quite, but we'll come to that in a bit) Hertz Team JOTA unveiled the hybridised Porsche 963 LMD hypercar with shiny gold livery, and a new sponsor with pretty deep pockets.
The now-retired NFL star quarterback, Tom Brady, has a fashion brand - inventively named Brady - which has struck a deal with the Porsche customer racing team, because why not.
The Hertz JOTA team, set to compete in the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), was the first customer team to sign up with Porsche, but will have a fair bit of catching up to do. Porsche informed 963 customers there would be delays to delivery, following supply chain issues, meaning the affected customers will miss some early races.
Team JOTA is a long-established Le Mans competitor and, with Hertz, Singer and Brady on board, should have enough to make the championship count.
Rob Dickinson, Singer Group boss, said: “In designing the livery, we wanted to recognise both the past and the future. Growing up in the 1970s and ‘80s, drivers like Derek Bell, Hurley Haywood and Jacky Ickx were heroes, battling for hours in machines capable of well over 200mph while winning races in a golden era for Porsche.
"We’ve always been inspired by motorsport at Singer so, in the centenary year of the Le Mans 24 Hours, this golden livery celebrates all those who have competed at the highest levels of endurance racing, Hertz Team JOTA’s first campaign in the World Endurance Championship, and the Porsche 963’s role in driving the development of renewable fuels and hybrid technology.
"Spending time with this fabulous racing car gives us so much inspiration and learning. We can’t wait for the first race.”
Neither can we.
