This is the ten millionth Ford Mustang

V8 manual convertible marks an astonishing milestone in ‘Stang history

The times, they are a-changin’. The very first Ford Mustang ever built – VIN 001 – back in 1964 was a convertible, 164bhp, three-speed V8 model. Now, more than 50 years later, Ford has just built its ten millionth Mustang.

Ten million. The ten millionth pays homage to its ancestor by way of colour (white), model (convertible) and configuration (V8). But where they differ is in power – the 2019 version comes with 460 horses, and a six-speed manual gearbox.

“Mustang is the heart and soul of this company,” explains Ford boss Jim Farley. Indeed, it is one of the world’s most famous cars outright, let alone synonymous with the Blue Oval.

To celebrate the milestone, Ford invited 60 Mustang owners and their cars – spanning all six generations – assembled into the formation you see above, along with a flyby of three WWII-era P-51 Mustang fighter planes.

“Mustang is a smile-maker in any language,” Farley added. We put that to the test in the new issue of TG magazine, incidentally, as we took out the new Bullitt Mustang alongside the iconic movie ‘Stang from 1968’s Bullitt. More on that, here...
