You can now use Apple Wallet to unlock your Polestar 3
Update allows drivers to lock and unlock their EVs using iPhones or Apple Watches
Polestar has announced an update for its 3 that solves one of humanity’s great crises: misplacing yer car keys. If you’ve got an iPhone or an Apple Watch, you can lock, unlock and drive off in your posh electric SUV using the Apple Wallet function.
Because that’s where the Polestar 3’s digital keys reside. Forever. Even if you’re running out of charge, because Polestar says ‘Power Reserve’ allows owners and users to access and start the thing. No more fishing behind the sofa or interrogating the dog.
You’ll need an iPhone 11 or later with the latest iOS installed, or a Series 6 Apple Watch (or later, obvs) with the latest watchOS running. Jump over those digital hurdles, and you can share your digital keys via a text message, an email, AirDrop or even WhatsApp with up to five other users.
“At Polestar, we are committed to delivering a premium experience, and that includes our personal relationship with our customers,” said Polestar boss Michael Lohscheller, “they asked for car keys in Apple Wallet, and so we delivered.
“The convenience of using your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock and start your car, and easily share access to the vehicle with others, shouldn’t be underestimated.”
It’s available via an over-the-air (OTA) update, and Polestar said it’ll be rolled out across the 4 at some point soon, too.
