The VW Tiguan R is now on sale
316bhp hot crossover goes on sale in Britain for £46k
Welcome to the next R-badged VW to hit the UK. Just after we got our first go in the excellent Golf R, Volkswagen has opened the order books for its big, SUV-shaped brother.
The Tiguan R will cost £45,915 in the UK. Which is a lot, given the Golf (which isn’t that much less practical) is about £6,000 less. Remember, the two share a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 316bhp, a seven-speed DSG and clever all-wheel drive system that can vector torque across the rear axle.
The Tiguan is slower than the Golf, but not by much. 0-62mph takes 4.9 seconds (versus 4.7 seconds for smaller, lighter car) and it tops out at a governed 155mph. What’s it like to drive? Click on these blue words to read our review.
Standard UK spec includes DCC adaptive damping, 21-inch alloys, a quad-exit exhaust (an Akrapovič setup is optional) and matrix LED headlights among others.
Reckon this is the family-friendly R-badged VW to have? We’d be tempted by the gorgeous Arteon R Shooting Brake on the strength of its looks alone.
