The Range Rover Velar now gets a range topping HST edition

395bhp petrol and 296bhp diesel Velars now available in fancy trim. Yours from £70k-ish

Published: 14 Apr 2022

Land Rover has revealed two new range-toppers for the Velar, in the shape of this: the new HST edition.

Now available on the delightful Velar following such hits as the Evoque and RR Sport, the HST is effectively a few visual and chassis tweaks, available in either 296bhp 3.0-litre diesel guise, or 395bhp 3.0-litre petrol. Both of those are straight-six Ingenium units, btw, and the HST follows news of the same units offered in sister brand Jaguar’s F-Pace Sport.

Both cars get the exclusive new grey paintjob you see above, along with the ‘Black Pack’ (gloss black elements), 21in alloys, some suedecloth headlining inside and a panoramic roof. They also come with air suspension/adaptive damping that either constantly adjust the setup to road conditions, or are available to gaffa tape into your favoured setting.

Like the F-Pace Sport cars, the Velar’s straight-six engines are mild-hybrids. They both feature a belt-integrated generator in place of a normal alternator, able to recuperate energy through braking and store it in a 48V battery.

Prices for the D300 HST (the diesel one) kick off at £69,865, while the P400 HST starts at £73,815. Still no word on what HST actually stands for, though. Suggestions in the comments below please folks.
