Video: new BMW M8 sounds like it wants to FIGHT

Footage emerges of the prototype M8 clearing its lungs. It sounds… agitated. Turn it up

Published: 31 May 2017

BMW has announced its intention to – finally – build a proper M version of its upcoming 2018 8 Series. Unsurprisingly, it will be called the BMW M8, and judging by this footage we’ve just seen and heard, sounds like it wants to have a fight with everything and everybody.

This prototype BMW M8 wearing its camo wrap was unveiled at last weekend’s Nürburgring 24hr race, where it formed part of a wider BMW M display. All attention, however, was soon diverted to the car clearing its lungs for the assembled crowd.

BMW hasn’t detailed the drivetrain of the M8 as yet – we’re still a way off seeing it, as it's scheduled to land next year – but we can confidently tell you it sounds really, really upset. All (V8?) grunt and crackling, snarling, popping exhausts. There are many interesting notes in that delivery too, that all sound nice and lovely.

“The engineers at BMW M are also working flat out on the M model,” BMW said, with those all-important quad-exhausts that “hint at the significantly boosted power and dynamic potential of the car”.

Screw the dynamism for now, and just turn the video up nice and loud. For the full story on the M8, click here, and for complete lowdown on the standard new 8 Series, click here.
