Video: Is this Ferrari 550GT the most glorious-sounding modern racer?
Screaming V12, meet crazy Italian hillclimb. Volume up, headphones on
It’s the end of the week, so we feel it’s entirely appropriate to down tools*, pop your headphones on, crank the volume up and watch this.
It could well be the greatest sounding racing car ever. Indeed, given straights longer than the weeny squirts between corners on the heroically twisty Cronoscalata del Reventino hillclimb in Italy, we’re certain the Ferrari 550GT would nail it.
The 6.0-litre V12 never fully reaches its crescendo as it squirms its way up, but we do get some eye-watering oversteer on a course with some truly wicked-looking camber, and an unfortunate choice between metal Armco or brick wall if you require some run-off.
Just try watching the corner at 2m35s without squirming in your spinny chair. Props to driver Piero Nappi, our new office hero.
Do racing cars get any cooler or louder than this? Post your suggestions below.
