McLaren’s new supercar will have top-exit exhausts

The complete car will be revealed in a couple of weeks’ time. For now, check out these pipes

Published: 13 Jun 2018

This is a bit of McLaren’s new, upcoming supercar, believed to be a lighter, more hardcore version of the 570S. Specifically, you're looking at the bit where the exhaust tips emerge. You will notice that they do not emerge from the bottom, or the sides, or indeed from the middle of the bottom, but instead from the top.

Yes. Top-exit exhausts. Good. Just like the Porsche 918 Spyder, these exhaust tips sit on top of the mid-mounted, as-yet unspecified engine. It will be specified on 28 June, before it goes for a run at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

McLaren only divulges that this new supercar will benefit from “increased power, minimised weight, optimised aerodynamics and enhanced driver engagement”, while also delivering on-track thrills.

Which sounds a lot like it could be an ‘LT’ model. Indeed, McLaren has said that it intends to build LT versions of most of its range, and going from this teaser shot and the one we saw last week, it’s got LT written all over it.
